This mandarin garnet is of a size, weight and clarity that have only been found in central Africa about twenty years ago. Right now no mandarin garnets are mined at all, only a few stocks where we have access to still have an amount and keep parts of them for themselves. To compare it with spessartine you need to delineate the brown touch which is not observable in this stone. It is pure fire of orange. As a garnet it has complicated absorption spectra and each type of garnet therefore exhibits unique chemical and physical characteristics. It cannot be synthesized and also the small natural „fingerprints“ in it will make this stone a worthwhile investment as many people look for it at all times. There was one stone of equal size on the last Intergem-fair in Munich and directly sold – this one is incomparable and only few exist on public market places. Its diameter is 13.9 mm and height is 9.5 mm. Its weight amounts to 14.21 cts. and the color is not able to be copied by citrine or other stones. Its shape is antique, which is a rarely cut fantasy type. There are only a few cutters in the world that would take the risk to cut such material in an unusual shape unless they do it very often. In the future the flair of antiquity will prevail and therefore the combination of the type of cut, extremely rare material and weight will be a good investment for the future.
