An aquamarine like this does not only have a rare size but it also exhibits a color that is only found in resources of Brazil (Santa Maria old mine) and Mozambique (Santa Maria Africana). This stone is a typical Santa-Maria-Africana stone with the term "Africana" being obsolete after the CIBJO-convention as origin is not determinable for value and a color like this one is an own term – just Santa Maria. Whenever needed in future the easiest way to distinguish it from other deep-colored aquamarines is its pleochroism under a dichroscope – you will see a deep ink-like blue next to a faint blue which is remarkable and unique for Mozambique. Sizes like these have not been mined in Mozambique for the last 10 years, only old stocks still have these sizes. Its weight is not too heavy to wear it as a necklace nor is its color too unique not to be combined with different colors or even some deep-colored quartzes and minor set-stones. As its shape is an emerald-cut, its light can be perfectly totally reflected inside and show the best of the stone´s color. So with this stone you attain a center-stone for every set (just think about the Levi's blue jeans which everyone can wear with any kind of T-shirt!). Its sizes are 38.60x27.02x17.53, the unusual weight is 131.04 ct. in an rectangular-cut with a polish that only in Idar-Oberstein can be reached. The last point to mention is that the weight of this stone is way enough that in future this stone can be recut to a special form and shape to make it attractive for future generations!
